Five different makes of machine in the top six illustrated manufacturers interest in the 1986 World Trials Championship as the riders moved to France for the fifth round. Leading after the fourth was reigning champion Thierry Michaud on the factory backed Fantic. Former champion Eddy Lejeune led the rival Rothmans Honda with British round winner Steve Saunders as second string.
